1-
What is “Content and Language Integrated Learning” (CLIL)?
CLIL
is a dual-focused educational approach in which an additional
language is used for the learning and teaching of both content and
language with the objective of promoting both content and language
mastery to pre-defined levels.
2- Is there any difference between immersion and CLIL teaching?
There
are many differences between immersion and CLIL teaching.
3- If so, what are the main differences?
Regarding language of
instruction, in
immersion, the language of instruction is often present in the
student's context (home, society at large or both). However, in CLIL
they are foreign languages
On
the other hand, regarding teachers, in
immersion programmes teachers are native speakers (NS), but in CLIL
they are not (only B2 level is normally required).
Finally,
regarding language objective, in immersion the goal is to obtain near
NS proficiency in L2, and CLIL strives for functional proficiency.
Furthermore, in immersion students are not allowed to use their L1
and in CLIL students can swap code.
